Big City Waltz

A warm wind came staggering
through the cattails, crossing the pond
by the time it wandered across my skin
all its warmth was gone
I could feel an on'ry storm a coming
from the pain between my bones
I could just lay down or keep on running
both would leave me cold and alone

I aint ready to grow old and I aint slowing down
I'd rather die cold and all alone than be buried in this town

I took cover 'neath a wise old spruce tree
to roll up a new cigarette
that dry alberta wind, followed me in
and left me soaking wet
through the tree tops i spotted a hawk
for a moment I felt less alone
then she cut through the haze
and I saw her face
just a vulture come to pick of my bones

I aint ready to grow old and I aint slowing down
I'd rather die cold and all alone than be buried in this town

As I part ways with my younger days
I long to understand
the very part of losing your heart
that makes a man a man

I could follow along, do what I feel is wrong
and folks might like me a bit better
or just disappear and the only things I'd fear
are the wolves and the weather

I aint ready to grow old and I aint slowing down
I'd rather die cold and all alone than be buried in this town
