Turnpike 02:37
My love is like an old turnpike and your hurtin me has taken its toll. If my heart was a highway our love would be a oneway road. It seems that loving you was just a dead end road. I tried to park my heart but had my tenderness towed. I would drive all night just to change your mind I'd love to throw the hammer down and let this rig unwind I feel like a hitchhiker standing on the shoulder, soakin out in the rain but only colder. My heart's in a pile-up that'd make the evening news and there aint a motor car around that could take this abuse She went and built me up and then she dropped me, I was a hot rod now some ol jalopy. My motors tired and my gears are worn as I try and pop the clutch she just lays on the horn

Hobo Shower 03:06
I had a hobo shower in a truck stop sink. Dont smell like flowers but now i dont stink. Last night i couldnt sleep a wink no way. So i poured a couple drinks and slept all day. My hat is mighty crooked but so am I, my goose is done cookeded and my well is surely dry I met this cowgirl the other week. On the barroom counter fast asleep. She had blue eyes, what a sight, one blew left and the other blew right. That cross eyed gal was just my type. Left me an open tab and slept all night. My hat is mighty crooked but so am I, my goose is done cookeded and my well is surely dry I get up with the rooster without fail. Try to hit the snoozer and only his tail. Out to the barn to saddle up my cayuse. Put the reigns round his horse and realized it was a moose. Well that swamp donkey gave me a buck. The force done launched me into a pile a muck. My hat is mighty crooked but so am I, my goose is done cookeded and my well is surely dry I been so content I am gettin' fat. My big ole head barely fits my hat It has been a good run for me so far Mama thinks Her son is country star But I play more bars than radio stations All I earned so far is a reputation My hat is mighty crooked but so am I, my goose is done cookeded and my well is run dry

Your Song 03:26
A. D. A. E If you're really leavin' . Leave me alone. Better stop believin' we can pick up where we went wrong And if you're needing me I'll be long gone. If you wanna hear from me, well here's your song. I tried take it slow but you took me by Surprise. You took my heart and tore it apart right in front on my eyes You may take me for a fool but I wont be taken for granted. Take your time but don't waste mine, I'll take my chances With the cards I been handed ~ It started with a spark that soon burst in to flames. All our memories now charred in the smoulderin remains You may burn this bridge But I won't feel the heat anymore I'll start a new fire and as the flames go higher I'll lay back and bask in the roar

I've been unconscious been obnoxious. I've have been plenty of thing I cant spell I've had old friends and dead ends and both wished me well The trouble I make aint troubling me no more. I invited folks over and I locked all the doors. I've been drunk in every podunk prairie pit stop tavern I'm guessin' there's a lesson somewhere I oughtta learn The trouble I make aint troubling me no more. I'm tippin' back the bottle and i aint keepin score Had a lion's share and didn't care, didn't even know til it was gone with a/c up in a pickup truck burned the bridge that I was on The trouble I make aint troubling me no more. I'll get a real nice hotel room and sleep on the floor. There's this one guy that always says I/ really oughtta borrow some book. I honestly swore to him once before I am as dumb as he looks the trouble I make aint troubling me no more. next week weeks the grand opening of my used book store. we've all heard some folks word is nearly as good as gold. i guess mine aint worth a dime by the albums I've sold the trouble I make aint troubling me no more. I'll keep making records though theyre keepin me poor some city parasitic critic type said I sing through my nose some men' would get offended but I think he's pretty darn close the trouble I make aint troubling me no more, me and my critics have a great rapport I've got queries and theories that my mind cant quite grasp questions and suggestions that'd make most folks laugh the trouble I make aint troubling me no more. I'd rather wonder than know forsure

As long as they serve beer, I'll keep drinking here. Even if the bands as band as me at guitar. This is where I cut my teeth and learned even the best get beat. I know I owe it all to this bar. When I walk through the doors like one hundred times before they know my name and what I like to drink. The smoking crowd outside are all drunk and country fried and no one seems to care what you think. I've seen the finest bars, fit for movie stars and I've been known to hit a barn dance when I can. But nothing can compare to that raucous atmosphere in there. This id where this boy became a man. When I was just a young punk, penniless and half drunk they let me have my chance to shine. Now I got my two cents and I want to prevent losing that sweet home of mine. I tip my hat, to the vat, the last rock and roll dive. Here's to you and Terry too lets keep it alive. They don't build em like that these days, and if they did I'd still come to this place. I tip my hat to the vat and good ol days.

She left me high and dry then they lowered the bar on me and ever since they did, I cant seem to leave. I don't care about the jukebox or the sports of the TV but I just cant seem to get up since they lowered the bar on me. If her expectations had been as low as she left me. Maybe I wouldnt be here mixing beer with agony. I thought things were looking up but I must have let her down. Now I am livin in a honky tonk on the shady side of town. Ive seen the bottom of this bottle 100 times and it always looks the same and it always looks the same. I'll have another and I swear to my own mother I won't even remember your name. I guess it aint as bad as I make it out to be, there's what his name the bartender to keep me company. The waitress sure is friendly she treats me like a king, cos I can finally tip good since I pawned our wedding rings.

They say I'm goin off the rails but I've already been and you can throw me right in jail I wont come out again. I've been this way for so long that I just cant pretend. They say I'm goin off the rails but I've already been. Sometimes I'm as bright as a full moon light and other times I isn't. I coulda heard /every word/ you said if I had listened. My head is full of beef and bull but i am as yeller as buckskin. They say I'm goin off the rails but I've already been. I would have have it together but birds of my feather sing a different song. No coop or pen could hold me in I'm bound to move along. When the rooster crows then you know I dont fit in. They say I'm goin off the rails but I've already been. You could be right, i just might belong in the loony bin, if its true let me through I aint waitin' to come in. Send me to my padded room so I can finally sleep in. They say I'm goin off the rails but I've already been

I was the next big thing til they heard me sing. I coulda been a household name. But all I got was a fool's jackpot. I played that lottery folks call fame. I was the next big star til they saw me play my guitar. I coulda been the one who changed the game. But all I got was a fool's jackpot. I played that lottery folks call fame I was nashville bent, if I had talent. I coulda made that opry stage But all I got/ was a fool's jackpot. I played that lottery folks call fame I was bound for bright lights but my teeth weren't white. I coulda heard that critical acclaim . But all I got was a fool's jackpot. I played that lottery folks call fame. Woulda wrote with the best if I'd been more depressed. I coulda been the next Mark Twain. But all I got was a fool's jackpot. I played that lottery folks call fame. Well the whole truth is I never liked show biz, that wasn't my intention anyway. But what I got was an afterthought, I just like to play.

Born To Lose 03:07
I been so concerned with payin' my dues I havent paid my bills in months. I got a bad case of them weary blues goin hungry cos this dog won't hunt. I made alot of more mistakes than I ever made money but my darlin' dont seem to mind. Lookin for the land of milk and honey but draught beer is all I ever find. The world is one big puddle and i got holes in my boots. Some say i was born lookin for trouble but baby i was born to lose. Sometimes i get to thinkin' I've been playin it wrong if i ever wanna see a buck. Give up writing my darn own songs and start singing about pickup trucks. I know deep down I aint that sort but a mans gotta earn his keep. I wonder how much I could afford before I started losing sleep. Call me old fashioned you're probably right but I aint the fashionable kind. Its bound to happen one of these nights i'll get so old fashioned I'll up and die. Or maybe i'll just end up at the legion bar drinkin' with the other coots. I'll be tellin' stories of how I got this far and how they used to call me ol boots.
