Truckin' Ditty #1

Here I stand on the side of that road,
thumb stretched out, guitar in tow
hoping' some stranger would give me a ride.
Through the darkness outta the rain
Lights of a highway freight train
Door swing open and I was much obliged
Sittin' there in the driver's seat
ostrich boots upon his feet
White linen suit and a ring on every knuckle.
One hand keeps his cigar ashed
and the other twirls his white mustache
he's steer in' with his turquoise belt buckle
He said "Hoss, there's a reason I picked you up
I aint got a radio in this ol' truck
and I reckon you and I could strike up a deal.
If you sing to me some highway songs
this rig'll keep movin' on
you take the lead and I'll take the wheel
I bowed my head and let out a cough
said "Sorry sir this is where I get off,
that wayward life is one I barely know."
He said " You jut make that guitar ring
and I'll try and do my best to sing."
and he started in with Six Days On the Road
Then came Willin' and Ramblin' Man
and before I know we're On the Road Again
caught up in a Convoy, headed Eastbound and Down
we were ridin' our thumbs to mexico
snapping' along to the King of the Road
now I'm a ramblin' man and I won't settle down.

" Wittily crafted, downtempo western melodies, a cactus in the ass of modern, power-ballad country crooners that forgot the music of their grandfathers." -EXCLAIM! Magazine
